The Bigger Picture: Notes from the 1st Months in Paris

It has been a month in Paris and the city keeps teaching me how to slow down. Days stretch differently here; they breathe. People are never in a rush to arrive anywhere. They move as if they are already where they need to be. Cafés turn into small theatres of stillness, a pause before a line, the rhythm of someone stirring their coffee. I find myself watching lights and shadows more than time. There is a quiet dialogue between light and shadow in this city, and somehow it is showing me my own. Maybe slowing down is not a break, it is more of a “being” rather than “doing”.

When I first arrived, I was still moving at London speed. Watching too many reels melted my brain already! My mind carried the same tempo, full of quick cuts and overloading information. But Paris edits differently. It prefers long takes. It holds the shot long enough for meaning to appear on its own.

I walk through the streets without needing to get anywhere, and every turn feels like a small composition. Not being too romantic but can’t help the smell of bread, the sound of rain on old glass, the gold reflections from the Seine. Even silence feels framed. Distance has started to give me clarity, not only about my work, but about the kind of rhythm I want in my life.

Being here has reminded me that creativity needs space, not pressure. Paris is full of people who seem to understand the value of doing one thing slowly and beautifully. A meal, a sentence, a glance. I am learning that art grows the same way. You cannot force it. You can only make room for it and trust the light to show up when it is ready.

I will taste, walk, see, smell and remember whatever I can for the rest of my time here.
